On Sunday, September 7, the bike portion of IRONMAN Wisconsin will pass through the City of Verona. Cyclists are expected to enter Verona at approximately 8:00 a.m. and remain in the city until about 5:30 p.m., which is anticipated to cause travel delays on roads used by both racers and vehicles. Some streets will be completely closed to vehicle traffic during this period.
Major intersections along the route will have Verona police officers present, while smaller intersections will not be staffed. The public is advised to yield to bicycles participating in the race and share the road appropriately. In certain areas, cones will be used to separate vehicle lanes from bike lanes.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to be patient and consider alternate routes to avoid the bike course. Increased traffic is expected due to race spectators as well as other unrelated events taking place throughout Verona on that day. For safety reasons, drivers are also urged not to use cell phones in these areas.
"Please yield to bicycles in the race and share the road kindly. In some areas, cones will serve to differentiate between vehicle travel and bike lanes."
