The City of Madison is moving forward with new initiatives aimed at increasing housing availability. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, members of the Common Council, and several community organizations have announced a set of proposals designed to support the construction of smaller, more affordable homes and streamline the permitting process for housing projects.

Three proposals are set to be introduced on September 16, with two additional proposals scheduled for review in October. The effort includes collaboration with groups such as 1,000 Friends of Wisconsin, AARP Wisconsin, Centro Hispano, Madison is for People, Realtors Association of South-Central Wisconsin, Strong Towns, Urban League of Greater Madison, United Way of Dane County, and Working Families Power.

According to city officials, these measures are intended to expand housing options throughout Madison by reducing barriers to development and making it easier for residents and developers to create new housing opportunities.
