The City of Madison will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 11, 2025, to mark the opening of Capitol Centre Park. The park is located at the Madison Senior Center courtyard at 330 W. Mifflin Street and is now open to the public.
The project began after the courtyard was transferred to the Parks Division, which led to a redesign process shaped by community feedback. In 2022, the Parks Division organized five public meetings, two online surveys, and several stakeholder sessions to gather input from residents and park users.
Following this period of engagement, both the Madison Common Council and the Urban Design Commission approved the project in 2023. The new park features expanded green space with more turf and trees, improved accessibility for visitors, additional seating areas, a nature play area for children, and bike racks.
Madison Parks acknowledged residents' advocacy and participation throughout the planning process.
“This project is a great example of how community voices shape our parks,” said Lisa Laschinger, Interim Parks Superintendent. “We’re excited to add this welcoming space to the downtown park system.”
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Alder Mike Verveer, and Paul Quinn from Capitol Neighborhoods, Inc., are scheduled to speak at Thursday’s ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
Capitol Centre Park will be open daily during regular park hours from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
