The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced it will hold an open house at the Governor Tommy G. Thompson State Fish Hatchery in Spooner on Saturday, September 27. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and is open to the public at no cost.

The DNR stated that visitors to the open house will have the opportunity to observe musky and walleye up close. The event will also feature guided tours of the hatchery, demonstrations showing how fish are pumped, and a display of a fish stocking truck. In addition, attendees can participate in various family-friendly games and activities.

According to information from the DNR, "This free open house will give eventgoers a chance to see musky and walleye up close and personal and will feature family fun activities and guided hatchery tours. Attendees will be able to see fish pumping demonstrations, a fish stocking truck, participate in various family-oriented games and more."

The Governor Tommy G. Thompson Fish Hatchery plays an important role in supporting Wisconsin's fisheries. It is currently recognized as the state's largest cool water hatchery. Each year, the facility raises walleye and muskellunge that are then released into lakes and rivers throughout Wisconsin to help maintain healthy fish populations.

As stated by the DNR: "The Governor Tommy G. Thompson fish hatchery is the state's largest cool water hatchery. Every year, the walleye and muskellunge raised at the hatchery are stocked into waters across the state to help sustain fish populations."
