The Week Without Driving campaign has started across the country, encouraging participants to go without driving for a period of time. The goal is to raise awareness among community leaders and decision-makers about the challenges faced by people who do not drive.

To launch the event locally, elected officials and disability rights advocates in Dane County gathered for a group bus ride in downtown Madison. The organizers aimed to draw attention to transportation barriers experienced by a significant portion of the population.

According to event organizers, between 30% and 40% of Dane County residents do not drive. This group includes people with disabilities, older adults, children, students, and those who cannot afford vehicle ownership.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to highlight transportation equity issues and encourage changes that improve access for all residents.
