The City of Madison Parking Division will begin testing new parking space signage and payment equipment on October 2. The test will take place on the 300 block of North Henry Street and the 200 block of West Gorham Street, where new features were installed earlier in the week.
The updated system includes payment kiosks, a pay-by-app option called Park Smarter, and a pay-by-text service. These options are already available citywide for other metered parking spaces.
Park Smarter is a mobile application that allows users to pay for parking with their smartphones at all IPS meters and pay stations. Payments can be made up to the maximum time allowed by the meter, and users can access payment information, usage history, and receipts through the app interface.
For those who prefer not to download an app, the text-to-pay option enables customers to text a zone number listed on the meter, enter their space number, select the desired time, and make a payment remotely.
To use these services in the test area, patrons must enter a designated parking zone. The zone will be displayed on signage at each parking space and within the Park Smarter app. Payment kiosks accepting credit cards or coins will also be available on West Gorham Street and North Henry Street.
According to the Parking Division: "The Parking Division regularly evaluates its technology and parking systems to improve convenience, security, and sustainability. We are committed to providing accessible, equitable, and reliable parking options that meet the needs of residents, businesses, event organizers, and visitors while supporting Madison's overall vitality."
