The Sun Prairie Area School District School Board announced on April 10 that three finalists have been selected in its search for the next superintendent: Dr. Jeff Fleig, Michael Harris, and Dr. Antoine Reed.

The selection of a new superintendent is a significant step for the district as it looks to identify leadership that will guide its schools and community forward. The process includes opportunities for public input and transparency throughout the final stages.

According to the board, each finalist will spend a day in the district on Monday, April 13. The schedule includes school tours and meetings with staff and students. That evening, parents, families, and community members are invited to meet the candidates during a public session at Central Heights Middle School Auditorium from 6:30 to 8:40 p.m., where each finalist will introduce themselves and answer questions in individual sessions.

Community feedback is encouraged through an online form accessible by link or QR code provided by the district. Final interviews with each candidate are scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at Central Heights Middle School Auditorium; these interviews are open to the public and will be streamed live by KSUN station.

Details about each candidate were released by the board. Dr. Fleig has over thirty years of experience in public education, most recently serving as superintendent of Fond du Lac School District after holding various principal positions across Wisconsin schools. Harris brings nearly thirty years of educational experience from Milwaukee Public Schools and Clarke County School District, currently serving as Interim Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Staff for Milwaukee Public Schools while advancing toward his superintendent licensure at Marquette University. Dr. Reed has more than twenty years in education leadership roles including Chief of Culture and Student Engagement at Rockford Public Schools as well as principalships in Milwaukee College Prep, South Bend, and Chicago.

School Board President Diana McFarland said “The School Board has worked diligently to get to this point,” adding “We wanted to hear from our community and were so pleased that nearly 1,300 individuals completed an online survey and 130 people attended focus groups to tell us what we should look for in our next superintendent.” McFarland continued: “We reviewed 25 applicants, and this week interviewed eight first-round candidates. We have thoroughly vetted these three candidates and are excited to share them with you. Our goal is to find the right person to lead our great District forward.” She also encouraged participation: “We hope staff, students, parents, and other residents will meet the finalists on April 13 and let us know what they think… We want to hear from you and your voice matters.”

After final interviews conclude on April 14th followed by closed session deliberations by board members, a decision is expected no later than Thursday April 16th regarding who will serve as Sun Prairie’s next superintendent starting July 1st.
