Dr. Steve Urso, a member of the Sun Prairie Area School District Board of Education since January 2025, has announced his resignation due to personal health issues.

Dr. Urso stated, “This district is the example for all other districts throughout the state. It sets the example, and I‘m proud to have served as a Board member.”

The Board of Education expressed gratitude to Dr. Urso for his service and support of the Sun Prairie community.

In accordance with SPASD Board Procedure and Wisconsin State Statute, the Board will appoint a new board member to fill the vacancy until the April 2026 school board election.

Interested candidates must submit a resume and letter of application by 5:00 pm on Friday, August 8, 2025. Applications can be emailed to cvemur@sunprairieschools.org or delivered in person to the District Support Center at 501 S. Bird Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590.

Applications should not exceed 700 words and must include a statement of qualities brought to the Board, identification of three critical issues facing the District, and proposed solutions.

Candidate interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025. These interviews will occur in an open meeting unless closed session is warranted. Deliberations may also be held in open or closed session.

A majority vote from six remaining Board members is needed to appoint a candidate. The goal is to complete this process by August 25, 2025.

Once appointed, the new member will serve until a successor is elected during the Spring 2026 election when two seats will be available for three-year terms each.

For more information about applying for this position contact the Office of Superintendent at 608-834-6502 or cvemur@sunprairieschools.org.
