The City of Sun Prairie announced on March 31 that it has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2024 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
This recognition is considered the highest form of acknowledgment in governmental accounting and financial reporting. It marks the tenth consecutive year that Sun Prairie has achieved this distinction. The GFOA also presented the city’s Finance Department with the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement.
The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report provides a detailed account of Sun Prairie’s financial condition, including its activities and balances for the fiscal year. To earn GFOA recognition, reports are evaluated based on compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, program policy, understandability, reader appeal, and overall quality.
According to the announcement, “This achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.” The city encourages residents to learn more about its finance department’s mission or view reports at www.cityofsunprairie.com/finance.
Sun Prairie is located in northeastern Dane County. Since becoming a city in 1958, it has grown from fewer than 4,000 residents to an estimated population of nearly 39,419.
