Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue released on May 22 the final Monthly Update with Monogue for the 2025-26 school year, focusing on student activities, school recognitions, and important end-of-year events in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.
The update matters as it provides families and staff with a summary of key accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and upcoming milestones that affect students across all grade levels. The district continues to emphasize community engagement through extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities for students, according to the official website.
Dr. Monogue visited Sunset Ridge Elementary School to meet with students Amina, Blake, Chloe, Gianna, and Ryan about their geodesic greenhouse project. Library Media Specialist Ren Schwab worked alongside teachers and parent volunteers to construct the greenhouse last year. High school science students will automate its watering system over the summer. The superintendent also highlighted mental health resources available throughout National Mental Health Awareness Month in May.
The district recognized several groups during this period: principals were honored on National School Principals Day; teachers were celebrated during Teacher Appreciation Week from May 4-8; nurses received recognition on National School Nurses Day; and speech-language pathologists were acknowledged for their role supporting student communication skills. Pope Farm Elementary’s chess team was congratulated for winning first place at the Scholastic Chess Championship held at Sunset Ridge Elementary School.
Clark Street Community School was named a FullScale Learning research site following a visit from educational representatives earlier in May—a distinction making it a national model of competency-based learning after its presentation at FullScale’s annual symposium last October.
More than 20 retirees from various roles within the district were honored at an annual retirement dinner on May 21. Preparations are underway for the Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony scheduled for June 6 at Alliant Energy Center in Madison, with related events such as cap-and-gown pickup set for late May.
The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District maintains facilities supporting education from early childhood through high school while emphasizing literacy, math programs, social-emotional learning practices—and achieved top ACT composite scores among public non-charter schools in Dane County and statewide—according to the official website. Dr. Dana Monogue serves as superintendent of a district that aims to understand students’ backgrounds while preparing them for global challenges but fostering local inspiration within Middleton and Cross Plains area communities.
