Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue outlined a series of student accomplishments, staff recognitions, and upcoming events in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District’s monthly update released on Apr. 23.
The district’s focus this month includes celebrating National School Library Month at Sauk Trail Elementary School, honoring nearly 200 paraeducators on National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, and recognizing eight assistant principals during National Assistant Principals Week. These initiatives reflect the district’s commitment to community engagement through extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities for students, according to the official website.
Dr. Monogue visited Sauk Trail Elementary where she met with student journalists Samuel, Vivian, Avika, and Addie who contribute to the school newsletter by writing stories about homework updates and interviewing teachers. The superintendent said these efforts underscore the importance of journalism among students. She also acknowledged the contributions of administrative professionals recognized on April 22 for ensuring smooth operations across schools and departments.
Student achievement was highlighted with Middleton High School students Sophia Chen and Sophia Pientka receiving the Governor’s Financial Literacy Award from Gov. Tony Evers for their Finance for Life project that helps middle schoolers learn budgeting skills in Dane County. Additionally, Meals Matter—a student-led nonprofit—won a national philanthropy award after collecting nearly 70,000 pounds of food for WayForward Resources.
Several Kromrey Middle School students advanced to national competitions: two robotics teams will compete at a world championship in St. Louis; Arthur Wang won first place at MathCOUNTS state competition; Arnav Vempati will participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee; while Middleton High School Racing Team prepares for Formula Student USA Track Day in May.
A family event titled Celebrating Books and Trees is scheduled for April 26 at Orchid Heights Park in Middleton to promote literacy and environmental appreciation by distributing free books in English and Spanish as well as potted trees while supplies last.
According to the official website, Dr. Dana Monogue serves as superintendent of a district that supports education from early childhood through high school with programs emphasizing literacy, math, social-emotional learning—and recently achieved top ACT composite scores among public non-charter schools statewide. The district aims to prepare students for global challenges while fostering local inspiration within its service area encompassing Middleton and Cross Plains.
