The Verona Senior Center announced on April 16 the launch of its Trishaw Bike Program, offering older adults a new way to enjoy outdoor rides along the Military Ridge State Trail.
The program aims to provide seniors with an accessible and comfortable option to experience nature and community. Using a three-wheeled, pedal-assist electric trishaw bike operated by trained pilots, up to two passengers can ride together in front while enjoying scenic views.
According to the center, the trishaw bike was acquired in fall 2025 through fundraising efforts led by Verona resident Dean Gorrell, support from local businesses, and individual donors. Now that warmer weather has arrived, the program is set to begin offering rides departing from and returning to the senior center.
“Get ready to roll! The Verona Senior Center is excited to launch our highly anticipated trishaw program – bringing fresh air, connection, and a sense of adventure to our community,” said Stephanie Ehle, Director of the Verona Senior Center.
The initiative is part of Cycling Without Age, an international movement that supports outdoor experiences for people with limited mobility. Rides are free of charge; however, donations are welcomed to help maintain the program.
Thirty-minute ride timeslots are now available for May. Those interested can register online or call 608-845-7471 for more information about participating.
