The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and UW-Madison Division of Extension are inviting the public to join Aquatic Invasive Species Snapshot Day on Saturday, August 9, 2025. This event aims to protect Wisconsin’s water bodies by monitoring sites for invasive plants and animals that could threaten local ecosystems.

Snapshot Day involves volunteers meeting at training sites hosted by community conservation partners. Participants will learn how to identify aquatic invasive species and follow specific search protocols before visiting designated monitoring locations. Any invasive species discovered will be cataloged to aid the DNR in managing their spread.

This initiative offers a practical way for community members to engage in science and contribute directly to preserving Wisconsin’s water health. Previous participants have found the experience educational and fulfilling, allowing them to connect with others interested in environmental conservation.

To take part in Snapshot Day, individuals should register online by Friday, August 8. The event is open to all ages but is recommended for those eight years old and above, with minors requiring adult supervision.
