Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), in collaboration with Inland Packaging, has released a video highlighting the significance of the manufacturing and agriculture credit (MAC) for Wisconsin’s economy. The video features Evan Umpir, WMC’s General Counsel and Director of Tax, Transportation, and Legal Affairs, alongside Mark Glendenning, President of Inland Packaging. They discuss the benefits of MAC and its role in maintaining the competitiveness of Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector.
The MAC was introduced by Governor Scott Walker in 2011 and began phasing in from 2013. It aims to promote growth within the state’s manufacturing industry. Companies like Inland Packaging have used this credit to reinvest in their workforce, purchase new equipment, and expand operations.
“Since 2010, we’ve invested well over $70 million in Wisconsin, and only because of the MAC,” said Glendenning. “Today, we have nearly 400 jobs in the state of Wisconsin, offering good-paying manufacturing opportunities. If we had left the state, that would have eliminated 400 jobs across Wisconsin.”
Manufacturing is a crucial part of Wisconsin’s economy. With more than 465,000 employees across over 9,000 manufacturers, it contributed $73.7 billion to the state’s economy in 2024.
“The MAC has benefited Wisconsin’s economy by propelling investments and expansions that, in turn, grow our manufacturing capabilities and output,” said Umpir. “Now, more than ever, it’s critical that we continue to invest in American manufacturing and ensure Wisconsin’s top industry is equipped to face the global challenges ahead.”
