Dane County’s 85 coaches earned an average salary of $159,688 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Wisconsin post-secondary schools during 2022.

Dane County is home to three post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of Wisconsin-Madison stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $592,945.

Male coaches of men's teams received $423,891 on average in Dane County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $117,338.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
