CITY OF MADISON: August Moving Days: Donate, Donate, Donate

Funddin2

City of Madison issued the following announcement on July 31

Last year, the City of Madison landfilled over one million pounds of unwanted things just from the August Moving Days.

Rather than wasting usable goods in the landfill, it’s much better to give them another life in a new home.

The Streets Division encourages everyone participating in the downtown moving days to seek out donation opportunities for their usable yet unwanted goods. This is important for all residents of Madison to consider when moving to a new home. Downsizing, or just updating their furniture.

A list of organizations that may accept usable items can be found on the Streets Division’s website.

Before arriving at an organization with items, please visit their websites or call them. Safety precautions due to the ongoing pandemic may have changed their procedures or limited what they can accept.

Usable items could also be resold or given away through various social media platforms on online person-to-person exchanges.

Residents of the large downtown apartment buildings may have access to donation opportunities within their buildings as well.

Additional Information

If there are additional questions about disposing or recycling an item, or how to handle situations like having more cardboard than can fit into the recycling cart, all residents are encouraged to contact the Streets Division.

Additional information can also be found on the Streets Division’s website and the Recyclopedia PDF .

If the information cannot be found on the website, please call or send an email.

Residents who live east of S. Park Street, and that includes the isthmus, should call 608-246-4532.

Residents west of S. Park Street, and that includes the neighborhoods around Camp Randall, should call 608-266-4681.
