Recently issued the following announcement.

Another week in the books! Here’s what you need to know from this week:

Small Business Week

This week marks Small Business Week, and with over 450,000 small businesses and 1.3 million employees across the state, there is plenty to celebrate here in Wisconsin!

I kicked off Small Business Week with the Job Creators Network (JCN) on their Bring Small Businesses Back bus tour in Waukesha at Weldall Manufacturing where I was presented with the Defender of Small Business Award for my work on behalf of the small business owners in Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District.

My sincerest thanks go out to the Job Creators Network for all of the work they do on behalf of small businesses and for their help in keeping my pulse on the most pressing issues facing business owners. It was an honor to receive the Defender of Small Business Award, especially at Weldall Manufacturing, a terrific small business in Southeast Wisconsin.

Later in the week, I had the opportunity to welcome Wisconsin’s very own Ms. Gena Felder, CFO of TJ Hale Company in Menomonee Falls, to testify before the House Small Business Committee. Gena shared her story with the Committee about the struggles her company endured while working with the Small Business Administration to secure Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funding. Gena’s story was powerful, but she is one of many Americans who have had trouble working through the bureaucracy many federal agencies impose on Americans. I am grateful Gena could enlighten my colleagues with her experience so we can be better equipped to make informed decisions moving forward.

You can watch Gena tell her story here.

Academy Day is TOMORROW

I encourage all high school students interested in a Service Academy Nomination to join staff from my office and the Wisconsin Congressional delegation for Academy Day tomorrow, September 18th! Come meet with representatives from the academies and speak with staff members about everything you need to know about the nomination process.

Judiciary Committee Democrats Block My Amendments to Protect Americans

A few weeks ago, the Democrats passed a reckless budget proposal drafted by socialist Senator Bernie Sanders that would incur $17 trillion in new debt over 10 years, including $3.5 trillion that would be spent immediately on partisan priorities.

This week, the House Judiciary Committee discharged legislative text in support of this budget framework – the most expensive in U.S. history.

I introduced three amendments in an attempt to improve the partisan legislation, but all three were voted down by the Democrats. The first amendment I offered would have restricted funds to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) until the State Department verifies that American citizens being evacuated from Afghanistan are not charged for their repatriation flights; another amendment would have prohibited amnesty for sex offenders; and the last amendment would have restricted the Attorney General from awarding a competitive grant or contract to a local government that has a policy against prosecuting violent offenses that affect the health, safety, or economy of the community.

All three of these amendments should have been no-brainers, but the Democrats voted down all three of these proposals. There is no line they are not willing to cross to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, and ram trillions of dollars in partisan spending through the House.

Toured the Leonardo DRS Facility

I recently had the opportunity to tour the Leonardo DRS facility in Menomonee Falls. Leonardo DRS provides a number of Force Protection, C4ISR, Propulsion, and Support and Logistics capabilities to the U.S. Military.

Leonardo DRS has facilities that span across the U.S., but right here in Wisconsin is where their Naval Power Systems facility is housed. This facility is where the company designs, tests, and manufactures naval and marine power distribution, power conversion, motor controls, drives, and automation/control equipment. Pretty impressive!

Even more impressive, the Menomonee Falls site spans 376,000 square feet and employs over 650 Wisconsinites, providing plenty of good paying jobs to Southeast Wisconsin. I had a great time visiting the site and learning more about how Wisconsin helps Leonardo DRS support our men and women in uniform.

That’s a wrap for this week’s eNewsletter! Follow me on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date on my work for the 5th District of Wisconsin.

Sincerely,

Scott Fitzgerald
