Wisconsin native Steve Stricker, captain of the 2021 U.S. team for the Ryder Cup golf tournament, led his crew to victory in his home state over the European team.
NBC Golf reported that the U.S. team won by a record 19-9 margin, mostly attributed to Stricker’s ability to bring out the raw talent of all of his team members.
"It's been the greatest honor of my career to represent the United States as @RyderCupUSA Captain. I can't wait to get started on Friday and watch this special group of players compete in front of my fellow Wisconsinites," Stricker wrote in a Sept. 22 Twitter post.
The European captain also admitted that whatever Stricker’s plan was, he did it right.
"They obviously got it right this week. A very strong team," European captain Padraig Harrington said, according to NBC Golf. "But I’m happy for Steve Stricker. He obviously got his plan right. Whatever their prep was, they did a good job, and they came out and started well and kept the momentum going. It was just a tough one to overcome."
The Wisconsin Badgers gave a shout out to Stricker and the U.S. team by tweeting, "Congrats to our good friend @stevestricker and Team USA on winning the #RyderCup right here in the state of Wisconsin!"
