On Veterans’ Day, our district honored veterans of the United States Armed Forces in various ways.
Harvest Intermediate School hosted three assemblies, and students at Eagle Point Elementary wrote letters and drew pictures to be mailed to veterans in the area and around the country.
DeForest Area High School held an all-school assembly that included choir members singing the National Anthem and band members that played “Armed Forces Salute.” In addition, senior musician Garrett Wink honored the audience with playing “Taps” to a silent gymnasium.
DAHS social studies teacher and Marine Corps & Wisconsin Air National Guard veteran, Tom August, presented a keynote address. Mr. August reminded the audience that, “Peace is not just the absence of war, but a combination of the absence of war and the presence of justice.”
Those in attendance were challenged to honor those who have served and are serving by “working for justice, being nice to each other, embracing similarities, and volunteering.” The DeForest Area School District is grateful to the men and women and their families who have served and continue to serve on behalf of each one of us.
Thank you to all veterans!
