Madison College's Mitby Theatre will host a series of free concerts featuring talented students and community members in May. The event, scheduled for May 3, 5, 8, and 10, will showcase performances by various music ensembles including the orchestra, band, choral collective, big band, and jazz ensemble.
One of the highlights of the concert series will be the Choral Collective and World Drumming Ensemble performance on May 3. Carolina Henneberry, the Madison College Choral Collective Director, expressed her excitement about the program, stating, "The Choral Collective is excited to present a dynamic program featuring songs from the movies, including Barbie, The Lion King, and The Wizard of Oz." She also mentioned that works by Eric Whitacre and Samuel Barber will be included in the performance to showcase the group's versatility.
Moreover, the series will feature the Madison College Big Band as they prepare for their upcoming Summer Germany Tour and the World Drumming Ensemble, which focuses on world drumming techniques and styles.
Louis Menchaca, the Madison College Municipal Band Director, emphasized the importance of supporting student musicians and community members, saying, "The music ensembles at Madison College aim to provide quality musical experiences to our participants and share them with our audiences at no charge."
The concert schedule includes the Choral Collective and World Drumming Ensemble on May 3, Big Band and Jazz Ensemble on May 5, Municipal Band on May 8, and Orchestra on May 10. All concerts will take place at the Mitby Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin, with free parking available for attendees.
