The University of Wisconsin–Madison recently announced the honoring of 42 faculty members with Vilas professorships and awards. The recipients were recognized for their outstanding contributions to scholarship, teaching, and service.

Among the honorees are Jean-Michel Ané from the Department of Bacteriology, Tulika Bose from the Physics Department, and Angela Byars-Winston from the School of Medicine. These professors were named to Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professorships, which provide flexible funding for five years.

In addition, other faculty members such as Mariel Barnes from the La Follette School of Public Affairs, Ashley Brown from the History Department, and Jacob Brunkard from the Department of Genetics received Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Awards. This award aims to acknowledge research and teaching excellence in faculty members who are in the early stages of their careers.

Furthermore, twelve professors were honored with Vilas Faculty Mid-Career Investigator Awards. This award recognizes research and teaching excellence in faculty members at a mid-career stage. Among the recipients are Mathew Berland from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Tim Bertram from the Chemistry Department, and Tonya Brito from the Law School.

The Vilas professorships and awards are supported by the estate of professor, U.S. Senator, and UW Regent William F. Vilas, with the aim of recognizing and supporting exceptional faculty members at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
