John Zumbrunnen, Lori Reesor, and Charles Isbell, along with other campus leaders, have been engaging in discussions with student protest organizers regarding the tent encampment on Library Mall at UW-Madison. The university is aiming to find a resolution before the beginning of finals on Sunday and has invited the organizers to a meeting on Saturday for further dialogue. In a message to the student protest organizers, Zumbrunnen stated, "We continue to be grateful to be in dialogue with you... We hope and trust you want the same and will join us tomorrow at noon."
Meanwhile, the University Committee of the Faculty Senate at the University of Wisconsin–Madison released a statement urging both student leaders and administration members to continue their discussions through the weekend. The Committee acknowledged the complexity of the issues in Israel and Gaza, which are at the core of the demonstrations, and emphasized the importance of deliberation in good faith to reach a peaceful resolution. The Committee members include Michael Bernard-Donals, Annie Jones, Li Chiao-Ping, Fernando Tejedo-Herrero, Susan Thibeault, and Ellen Zweibel.
The university is actively working towards a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation on Library Mall and is encouraging open dialogue between all parties involved.
