The Committee on Student Organizations (CSO) at UW-Madison has initiated investigations for two registered student organizations (RSOs) following allegations of conduct in violation of student organization codes. The organizations, Mecha de UW Madison and Anticolonial Scientists, have received interim suspension notices in relation to a chalking event at the Dane County Farmer’s Market that allegedly involved discriminatory conduct.

According to the news article, some of the chalkings at the event endorsed violence, supported terrorist organizations, and contained antisemitic comments. Discriminatory harassment goes against UW–Madison’s RSO Code of Conduct, and while the reports have not been substantiated, the two organizations will remain on interim suspension until the university completes its investigation.

The university and its leaders have made it clear that they condemn antisemitism, Islamophobia, and calls for violence. During the interim suspension period, the RSOs are required to cease all organizational activities except for one executive board meeting per week. They are prohibited from using university-owned office space, hosting events, co-hosting events, traveling, and reserving university facilities.

The article states that the organization contacts have been informed of the interim suspensions, and the investigations will be carried out by the university’s Committee on Student Organizations.

Feedback or questions about the investigations can be directed to contact-us@uc.wisc.edu, as per University Communications.
