Effective July 1, 2024, a convenience fee of $0.45 will be added to each Park Smarter mobile payment transaction in Madison. This fee can be avoided by paying for parking directly at the meter using a credit card, debit card, or coins.
The change affects customers who choose to use the Park Smarter mobile application to pay for their metered parking time. The City of Madison has cited rising credit processing fees as the reason for implementing this convenience fee. The city contracts with Park Smarter to provide a contactless mobile payment option.
