Middleton-Cross Plains schools named climate champions by Dane County

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) has been recognized as 2024 Climate Champions by the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change. The Climate Champions program acknowledges local businesses, organizations, and groups for their efforts in significantly reducing carbon emissions.

The program awards recognitions across ten categories: Energy Use, Building Design, Fleet Operations, Employee Commuting, Water Saving Practices, Waste Diversion Practices, Sustainable Land Use, Catalysts, Net Carbon Emissions, and Other.

MCPASD achieved 2024 Climate Champion status for ten schools under various categories:

- Early Learning Center

- Elm Lawn Elementary School

- Pope Farm Elementary School

- Sauk Trail Elementary School

- Sunset Ridge Elementary School

- West Middleton Elementary School

These schools earned two stars for using about half as much energy as a typical elementary school.

Northside Elementary School earned one star in Building Energy Use for utilizing 25% less energy than a typical elementary school.

Glacier Creek Middle School and Kromrey Middle School each earned two stars in Building Energy Use for using about half as much energy as a typical middle school.

MCPASD High School Campus earned one star in Building Energy Use for utilizing about 25% less energy than a typical high school.

The Dane County Climate Action Plan aims to reduce countywide emissions by half by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. MCPASD is proud to support this goal of a cleaner and greener future.
