A committee has been formed to identify and select candidates for the role of chief information officer and vice provost for information technology at UW–Madison. Jeffrey Russell, who is the vice provost and dean of the Division of Continuing Studies as well as a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will chair this search committee.

Lois Brooks, who has held the position since 2018, plans to retire in spring 2025. During her tenure, Brooks led significant modernization efforts and navigated challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new chief information officer will oversee all IT-related activities on campus. This includes developing IT services, implementing security policies, and managing teams like the IT Center of Excellence and the Division of Information Technology (DoIT).

Community members are encouraged to provide input through an online survey or by attending public listening sessions scheduled via Zoom on October 24 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and October 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Nominations and applications can be submitted through the Issacson, Miller website with a deadline for consideration set for January 10, 2025.

Committee members include Kyle Cranmer from the Department of Physics; Tammie Hodgson from DoIT; Shawn Green from the Department of Psychology; Jamie Gutkowski from User Services at DoIT; Julie V. Johnson in cyberdefense analysis; Jeff Korab from Informatics and Information Technology; Darcy Padilla from the Art Department; Dorothea Salo from Information School; Patrick Sheehan from Human Resources; Wren Singer from Academic & Career Success; Simar Tathgir representing students; Vanessa Taulbee in Business Analysis and Change Management; Amy Wendt in electrical & computer engineering; and Jerry Zhu from Computer Sciences.
