Council President Yannette Figueroa Cole issued a statement regarding the recent investigation into allegations against Alder Myadze. The investigation concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prove a violation of the City of Madison APM 3-5, yet it uncovered significant issues requiring attention.

The report highlighted "a troubling pattern of behavior," with instances of unwanted and inappropriate conduct creating trauma for complainants. It also noted an unwelcome pattern of bullying and aggressive behavior leading to an unacceptable power imbalance.

Cole emphasized the need to address these findings, stating, "Collectively, we must create an environment that promotes safety and dignity and is free of bullying, sexual harassment and hostility for all community members." She acknowledged the courage shown by those who came forward during the investigation.

In July 2024, updates were made to the Council Code of Conduct to include examples of sexual harassment and define a reporting process. This was the first investigation under this updated code. Cole committed to applying lessons learned from this process for continued improvement in city policies.

The statement concluded with a commitment to reviewing policies to support victims effectively and ensure harmful behaviors are addressed even if they do not violate laws technically.
