Whether it's enjoying Wisconsin cheese curds, cooking meals, or sharing food with those in need, students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison often connect over food. Joining a food-related club on campus is one way to enhance these connections.
The Badger Cheese Club offers members the chance to enjoy and learn about different cheeses. The club has been active for over ten years and involves around 450 students. Melina Zarboulas, co-president of the club, said, "Food is at the heart of every gathering." The club hosts events like cheese tastings and Cheese Curd Crawls with support from local businesses such as Wisconsin Cheese Mart and Babcock Dairy.
WUD Cuisine focuses on food transparency, sustainability, and justice. Founded in 2016, it holds monthly cooking workshops and demonstrations. Director Adeline Wood said the organization provides "a space for people to learn, appreciate and showcase different cuisines."
Food For Thought aims to bridge gaps between students and community members without housing by sharing meals. President Charles Pfennigwerth stated that while food is important, it serves as a tool for connection.
Roamin’ With Ramen distributes ramen during its "Ramen Roam" events to address hunger on campus. Paige Hammersley noted that whether ramen is a snack or a meal doesn't matter; what matters is helping those who might struggle to get three full meals a day.
Other clubs include State Street Eats and Slow Food, which focus on exploring local cuisine and providing good food for all community members.
