Schools across the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) are gearing up for a series of free musical performances leading up to the winter break from December 23 through January 3. Dan Davidson, MMSD’s director of arts education, stated, “Our students have been preparing diligently for these concerts over recent weeks. We are excited to open our schools to the community, and to celebrate the season, the arts and the amazing talents of all of our performers.”
The schedule of performances is as follows:
On Tuesday, December 10, La Follette High School will host a Winter Choir Concert at 7 p.m., and Georgia O’Keeffe Middle School will present a Choir Concert at the same time.
On Wednesday, December 11, Sherman Middle School's Winter Choir Concert will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by Ezekiel Gillespie Middle School's Grades 6 & 7 Orchestra & Band Concert at Vel Phillips Memorial High School at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, Georgia O’Keeffe Middle School will feature Grades 7, 8 & Jazz Bands at 7 p.m., West High School will hold a Winter Jazz Concert also at 7 p.m., and Vel Phillips Memorial High School with Gillespie Grade 8 Band will perform at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, December 12 events include Sherman Middle School's Winter Orchestra Concert at 5:30 p.m., Spring Harbor Middle School's Band/Chorus Winter Concert at 6 p.m., Akira R. Toki Middle School's Grade 7 Choir/Band/Orchestra Concert also starting at 6 p.m., and Velma Hamilton Middle School's Grade 6 Orchestra & Choir Concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The following week on Tuesday, December 17, Nuestro Mundo Community School will have its Winter Concert/Concierto de Invierno at 1 p.m., Annie Greencrow Whitehorse Middle School's Winter Concert starts at 6 p.m., and Vel Phillips Memorial High School with Gillespie Grade 8 Orchestra will perform an Orchestra Concert beginning at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, December 18, Spring Harbor Middle School presents its Orchestra Winter Concert starting at 6 p.m., West High School hosts a Winter Choir Concert beginning at 7 p.m., while Vel Phillips Memorial High School with Gillespie Choirs offers a Winter Choir Concert also commencing at that time. East High School rounds out the day with a Choir Concert starting at approximately half-past seven.
Finally, on Thursday, December19 Ray F. Sennett Middle school showcases its Grades seven and eight Band/Orchestra concert beginning promptly around six o'clock sharp whereas Akira R Toki middle holds grade six choir/band/orchestra affair just hour later
