The City of Madison, in collaboration with the Parks and Streets Divisions and Wisconsin Salt Wise, is seeking public participation in naming five snowplows. The initiative invites residents to submit creative names for one vehicle from the Parks Division and four from the Streets Division.
These vehicles play crucial roles in snowstorm response operations, handling tasks such as plowing roads, paths, bus stops, sidewalks, and pre-treating roads. Photos and detailed descriptions of their duties are available on the "Name the Plows 2025" webpage.
Residents can send their name suggestions to dropoff@cityofmadison.com by 4:00 pm on January 24, 2025. Submissions can include one or multiple names. If a suggestion targets a specific vehicle, it should be specified in the email. The initiative encourages playful and pun-filled names referencing various cultural elements.
Following submission, finalists will be selected for each vehicle. Wisconsin Salt Wise will conduct an election starting February 3, 2025, to determine the winning names. Election details are accessible on the plow naming webpage.
Wisconsin Salt Wise is a coalition focused on reducing salt pollution in water bodies. Their website offers resources for homeowners and winter maintenance professionals to use salt effectively during winter.
