The Sun Prairie Area School District (SPASD) has announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Education. Colleen Uhlenkamp and Steve Urso will join the board, each bringing their own expertise and experiences.

Colleen Uhlenkamp is set to serve until the spring 2025 election. With three children in SPASD schools, she possesses a strong background in school operations and policy. Uhlenkamp holds a Master of Law in Intellectual Property and a Juris Doctor degree. She currently works with the Wisconsin Educational Approval Program, focusing on compliance with state laws for schools and students. Her past roles include positions at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and as an attorney for K–12 public school districts in Wisconsin and Iowa.

Steve Urso will serve on the board through the spring 2026 election. He has extensive experience in administration and education, holding a doctoral degree in educational leadership. Urso has been a resident of the Sun Prairie Area School District since 2016 and aims to support the district's educational services.

It also expressed gratitude to all candidates who applied, noting that their applications demonstrated community strength and dedication.

In line with its commitment to continuous improvement, the board sees these appointments as crucial for advancing its priorities. These priorities include enhancing communication with stakeholders, ensuring financial health through revised policies, and expanding educational opportunities for students.

In upcoming weeks, the board plans to review its strategic priorities for the academic year’s second half. It looks forward to incorporating insights from Uhlenkamp and Urso into these discussions while appreciating ongoing collaboration with SPASD staff, families, and community members.
