Residents of Madison with scheduled trash and recycling pickup on January 21, 2025, are advised to place their carts out by 6:30 a.m. The Streets Division has announced potential delays due to extreme cold weather conditions.
"If the Streets Division is unable to collect your scheduled cart today, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a truck will return on Wednesday, January 22," the division stated. Residents whose pickups are missed should leave their carts out for collection on the following day.
The delay is attributed to the decision not to use rear-loading trucks because of safety concerns related to the extreme cold. "With wind chills expected to be around negative 30 degrees, we must consider the safety of our staff," explained the division. Instead, only automated-style collection trucks will be used, reducing the number of vehicles available for service.
This change in operations may prevent completion of all scheduled routes. Residents are encouraged to sign up for email updates from the Streets Division for notifications about weather or holiday-related delays. More than 500 residents have already subscribed.
