The City of Madison has announced a new round of funding for Youth Climate Action projects, supported by a $100,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies. This funding will back seventeen youth-led initiatives with $5,000 each. Eligible projects must directly benefit Madison residents, be led by at least three individuals aged 16-24, and align with the city's 2024 Sustainability Plan. The selection process involves local youth experienced in the By Youth For Youth program.

In 2024, Madison secured $50,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies for eight similar projects under the same sustainability framework. These ranged from environmental restoration efforts to fostering interest in green careers.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway emphasized the importance of involving young people in sustainability efforts: “Last year’s projects showed me the innovative capacity of our young people and the care they have for our planet and our community. Local governments are at the front line of combatting climate change and Madison has already successfully deployed multiple decarbonization initiatives. I’m excited to see what new ideas emerge from this latest round of Youth Climate Action funding.”

Youth aged 15-24 are encouraged to apply for this funding opportunity through an online platform. Priority applications will be accepted until March 10, with subsequent submissions considered as long as funds remain available. All funded projects must conclude by October 31st, 2025.

A virtual co-creation session is scheduled for February 17th to assist applicants in developing project proposals that align with organizational goals and meet sustainability criteria. This session aims to enhance collaboration among project staff, youth organizations, and grant reviewers.
