Madison's Central Business Improvement District (BID) is inviting the community to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Downtown Madison. The event will feature traditional Chinese Lion Dancing, where attendees can feed the lions to bring luck for the new year. Downtown Madison hosts over two dozen Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) owned businesses, many of which will offer specials and blessings at their locations.
The Association will perform traditional Lion Dancing on stage at Lisa Link Peace Park, located at 452 State Street. "The Association provides a comprehensive study of Chinese martial arts," stated a spokesperson. Members have competed regionally, nationally, and internationally.
After the performance in the park, members of the Association will conduct blessings at select downtown locations. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy shopping and dining from various AAPI businesses such as Asian Kitchen, Chen’s Dumpling House, Hot Pot 608, Apex Grill, Eat Xpress, Fugu, Kung Fu Tea, Le C’s Patisserie & Tea House, Mad Seafood Boiler, Madison Dagu Rice Noodles, Ruyi Hand Pulled Noodle, Sol’s on the Square, Taiwan Little Eats, Taste of Sichuan, Yume Sushi, Teamoji, Jinji Jing Cha, Izakara Kuroyama, So Gung Dong Tofu & BBQ among others.
The event promises a fun and safe way to shop while celebrating AAPI culture and heritage.
"Founded in 1995 by Shifu Nelson Ferreira," a representative explained about their partner organization. They focus on promoting Bei Shaolinquan (Northern Shaolin Style Kungfu), Hoksan Sar Ping Lion Dance (Lui Pai), and Kuoshu (traditional Chinese martial arts). The association offers an extensive study of these arts as combative and cultural pursuits.
