The City of Madison's Common Council has approved changes to the zoning code aimed at supporting the development of diverse housing types. The decision was made during a council meeting on Tuesday.

This package of changes was initially introduced in January by Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway along with Alds. Juliana Bennett, John Duncan, Tag Evers, Derek Field, MGR Govindarajan, John Guequierre, Sabrina Madison, Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford, and Regina Vidaver. It aims to offer more flexibility for homeowners interested in building or modifying single-family homes and Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Additionally, it seeks to facilitate small residential infill projects where they are already permitted and improve the city's review process for demolitions of non-historic buildings.
