The City of Madison's Department of Civil Rights is organizing an event titled "What We Could Lose: Medicaid and Other Programs For People with Disabilities." This hybrid event, scheduled for March 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. (CT), will be held both virtually and in person.

The event is a collaborative effort with local organizations such as Disability Pride Madison, UW Disability Cultural Center, and Access to Independence. It aims to address community concerns about potential reductions in programs vital to people with disabilities. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about these issues, ask questions, and discuss the significance of these services.

Elected officials are encouraged to participate in order to hear firsthand accounts from constituents regarding their experiences with Medicaid and other federally funded programs that support individuals with disabilities. These programs include special education, vocational services, housing vouchers, and SNAP.

Speakers at the event will include Eric Buehlmann from the National Disability Rights Network, Tami Jackson from the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities, Jason Beloungy from Access to Independence, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Rep. Lisa Subeck of Wisconsin Assembly District 79.

The live event will take place at Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Blvd., Room 206. The virtual session can be accessed via Zoom using Meeting ID: 836 1474 8193 and Passcode: 162248.
