Provisional voters in Madison are advised to submit their photo identification by 4:00 pm this Friday, April 4, to the City Clerk’s Office to ensure their ballots are counted. The Board of Canvassers will meet at the deadline to count provisional ballots received from voters who complied.

On election day, 66 provisional ballots were given out at polling places in Madison. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway encourages these voters to provide their identification. "I encourage every provisional voter to bring their ID to the Clerk’s Office so their ballot will be counted,” said Rhodes-Conway, also mentioning, "Help is available if you need to figure out how to apply for a Wisconsin ID."

State law outlines several forms of acceptable voter identification, including Wisconsin driver's licenses and DOT-issued photo ID cards, U.S. passports, and military ID cards, all of which must not have expired before November 5, 2024. Additionally, IDs from a federally recognized Indian tribe, the Veterans Health Administration, certain university or college ID cards, and other specific documents are allowed.

Voters do not need their IDs to show a current address; the requirement is to verify identity, not residence.

For those who need assistance securing a state ID, the Dane County Voter ID Coalition provides free help and offers free cab rides to the DMV. The coalition, which includes the League of Women Voters of Dane County and the NAACP of Dane County, can be contacted at (608) 285-2141.
