The Madison Police Department is providing essential training to help individuals survive active shooter situations. The upcoming session, part of the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) program, is scheduled for April 10.
"The Madison Police Department is offering a training designed to save lives in an active shooter situation," stated the department. Participating officers will dissect active shooter cases, focusing on the decisions made by victims and their outcomes. The training will also feature realistic equipment for a hands-on experience, simulating situations that attendees might encounter.
Statistically, police respond to active shooter events within three minutes, yet about two-thirds of these incidents conclude before their arrival. "The course principles can be applied at businesses, schools, places of worship, clinics, or anywhere people gather," the department emphasized.
Details for those interested include the training date, Thursday, April 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the MPD Training Center located at 5702 Femrite Drive. For registration, attendees must fill out the designated form and send it via email to crase@cityofmadison.com.
The department also announced plans to offer another session in the fall for those unable to attend this time.
