The majority of students in Dane County districts were white in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 77,605 students attending Dane County district schools, 59.9% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnic group within Dane County's districts, making up 16.1% of the student body.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Dane County districts, representing 60.7% of the student body.

Madison Metropolitan School District had the most even distribution of races among county districts, which included 39.1% of white students, 25.9% of Hispanic students, 18% of African American students, 9.6% of multiracial students, 7.2% of Asian students, and 0% of Pacific Islander students.

In the 2024-25 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county increased 0.7% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Dane County.

Wisconsin's lawmakers have approved over $5.5 billion in funding for schools for the 2024-25 school year, a 4.2% increase from the previous year. The budget allocates an additional $325 per pupil aid for each year of the biennium, as well as more than $90 million in increased funding for special education.
