The City of Madison is preparing for the annual Ride the Drive event scheduled for Sunday, August 10, 2025. This event will feature three park hubs connected by 2.38 miles of streets closed to motor vehicles, including parts of John Nolen Drive and Williamson Street. The park hubs—Olin Park, Law Park, and McPike Park—will offer activities for all ages, as well as food and entertainment.
Since its inception in 2009, Ride the Drive has been a celebration of Madison's dedication to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle while also highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of such events and the significance of social integration. The event provides a chance for adults and children to embrace healthy living through alternative transportation methods, without the interference of motor vehicle traffic or noise. Last year, the event drew an estimated 12,000 participants and featured a variety of free activities.
Madison Parks announced a donation of $10,000 from the Madison Parks Foundation to support Ride the Drive. Stephanie Franklin, the Executive Director of the Foundation, stated, “Thanks to the incredible support from our donors, the Madison Parks Foundation is honored to sponsor this fantastic event and contribute to the amazing programming taking place in Madison’s parks."
On the day of the event, specific streets will be closed between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. John Nolen Drive will be closed from Olin Avenue to Williamson Street, and Williamson Street to Ingersoll Street. Nearly 200 volunteers, including around 100 intersection guides, will be essential to the event's execution. Most volunteer shifts will last two hours, allowing volunteers to also enjoy the event.
Ride the Drive is organized by the City of Madison Parks Division with assistance from various city agencies and local organizations.
