Maribeth Witzel-Behl has resigned from her role as City of Madison Clerk, a position she held since 2006. Over her tenure, she administered more than 60 elections and managed the City's legislative tracking system, as well as the issuance of City and County licenses and permits.

Witzel-Behl is credited with fostering a strong culture of customer service and civic pride in her office. Her efforts in training and supporting election officials have been recognized and appreciated by the many poll workers she engaged with throughout her career.

Known for her commitment to inclusivity and community engagement, Witzel-Behl implemented several initiatives aimed at rendering City government and elections more accessible.

“On behalf of City of Madison residents, I want to extend my gratitude to Maribeth for her commitment and dedication to public service,” said Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. “Maribeth embodies the motto she brought to the Clerk’s Office: ‘We exist to assist.’ I wish her the very best in future endeavors.”

In the interim, City Attorney Michael Haas will function as Acting Clerk while a nationwide search is conducted for a permanent successor to lead the agency.
