Percival Matthews, an esteemed professor and associate dean in the School of Education, has been named special advisor to Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin and Provost Charles Isbell at UW–Madison. This new appointment underscores the university's commitment to fostering an inclusive community for all students and staff.

Chancellor Mnookin and Provost Isbell highlighted the role's focus on advancing institutional efforts towards a welcoming environment. Starting April 20, Matthews will retain his current duties while advising on the university's strategies for access and community enhancement.

The advisor position, however, does not include supervisory responsibilities. Instead, Matthews will collaborate closely with leadership to chart out plans for promoting academic success and inclusivity across the campus. His advisory role will be enriched through engagements with campus and community stakeholders.

Chancellor Mnookin expressed her belief in the university’s ambition to be a "place where every student, faculty, and staff member" can feel connected and realize their potential. She noted, "With his talents and experience, Percival is uniquely positioned to help us move our campus forward."

Since joining UW–Madison in 2012, Matthews has played a vital role as an associate dean in supporting the university community and leading strategic initiatives. In his faculty role within the Department of Educational Psychology, he focuses on improving mathematical learning and understanding.
