Student Jose Villarreal has been named the 2025 Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Ambassador from Madison College. Pursuing an associate of arts/science degree in the university transfer program, Villarreal plans to transition to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to acquire a bachelor's degree in biology.
The WTCS selects one student from each of Wisconsin's technical colleges to take part in a leadership and recognition program. Villarreal's aim is to inspire others to consider technical college education. After high school, he worked full-time, believing college to be unaffordable.
Reflecting on his decision to pursue further education, Villarreal stated, "Now that I have spent time in the workforce, I know the impact of not having a college education. To provide a better life for my family, I enrolled in Madison College. It's important to me to lead by example and attend college to show my daughter that education is achievable. I want her to know that a well-rounded education will benefit not only her but our community as a whole."
Currently employed at Exact Sciences Corp. in Madison, Villarreal aims to aid in developing early cancer diagnostics. He appreciates the support at Madison College, noting, "Madison College helps me attain my goals because it's affordable, flexible, and welcoming to people of all backgrounds. I have all the resources that I need to attend school here."
