An area on the east side of the City of Madison has been cleaned after experiencing a sanitary sewer overflow resulting in the spillage of 300 gallons of sewage. The incident occurred on the morning of April 18, 2025.
The City of Madison Engineering Division was notified about the overflow at the corner of Acewood Blvd and Goldfinch Drive at 10:30 a.m. City crews responded to the situation by 11:15 a.m. After containing the overflow, the crews found that the cause was tree roots obstructing the sewer. The obstruction was removed, effectively resolving the problem. It was estimated that the sewage spillage reached the city's storm sewer system on Acewood Blvd.
Subsequently, the affected area, including the street, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer, was cleaned. The cleanup operation was completed by 12:45 p.m.
According to Wisconsin State Law, sewer blockages and overflows must be reported. This report complies with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Administrative Code and the City of Madison’s Capacity, Maintenance, Operations & Management (CMOM) Program.
