The City of Madison is participating in National Community Development Week from April 21 to April 25, 2025, in conjunction with other cities across the nation. The week aims to showcase the positive outcomes that projects funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs have realized in the Madison area.

The CDBG program, initiated in 1974 by President Gerald Ford, came into existence with the Housing and Community Development Act. This legislation consolidated eight distinct federal programs into a singular block grant, providing local governments with increased authority over fund allocation. CDBG funds are known to support a variety of needs including infrastructure projects, economic development, housing, and other community requirements.

During a period when federal funding for numerous programs faces heightened scrutiny, the significance of programs like the CDBG in aiding generations of Madison residents is noteworthy. The city's celebration during the National Community Development Week underscores this impact.
