Childcare expenses in Madison rank among the highest for families. Moreover, a scarcity of childcare providers in the region is pushing costs even higher.

For many years, the City of Madison's Community Development Division has backed various childcare providers throughout the city. This includes offering accreditation, which aims to "offer a sense of trust and peace of mind to parents," and opens "the door to additional funding opportunities and partnerships for childcare providers."

Numerous childcare providers have maintained partnerships with the City for half a century. Notably, the City of Madison has accredited Red Caboose Child Care Center since the early 1970s.
