Concerned legislators gathered to address a reported incident at Froedtert Hospital involving the denial of care to an on-duty Milwaukee police officer. The officer allegedly received this treatment because of his department-issued firearm.

A letter sent to the hospital's leadership was led by Senators Julian Bradley and Van Wanggaard, along with Representatives Jim Piwowarczyk and Bob Donovan. The legislators expressed concerns that the hospital's policies might be hindering police officers' interactions with victims, suspects, and witnesses within the facility. They emphasized the need for law enforcement to perform their duties without such restrictions.

"This latest incident appears to be part of a pattern of behavior on the part of Froedtert," stated Senator Bradley. He insisted the hospital reverse any discriminatory policies against police. Rep. Piwowarczyk shared this sentiment, voicing his disapproval of the hospital's alleged lack of professionalism towards law enforcement, and raised questions regarding the hospital's DEI policies and public funding.

The issue was described as "indefensible" and "dangerous" by the legislators, who warned it could undermine public safety and contribute to a growing hostility toward law enforcement. "The presence of police officers makes places safer not more dangerous," remarked Senator Wanggaard, criticizing Froedtert's alleged treatment of armed police officers.

In strong words, Rep. Donovan expressed his disgust at what he called an anti-cop sentiment within the hospital. He suggested that leaders should be held accountable and taxpayer funds withheld if such practices continued.

The legislators outlined several demands from Froedtert, including a public apology to the officer involved, the reversal of any policies that led to the denial of care based on the officer’s attire or equipment, clarification of policies that seem to limit officers’ roles on-site, and the implementation of guidelines affirming support for law enforcement in healthcare settings.

The legislators have formally requested a response from Froedtert Hospital.
