Madison College, in collaboration with community organizations, will host a parade on June 21 to honor Juneteenth Day. The event aims to celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth through community engagement, cultural activities, and reflection.
Dr. Jimmy Cheffen, Madison College Community Impact Manager, emphasized the significance of participating in the parade. “By participating, you help bring history to life and show that the fight for justice and equity is still alive and strong,” he stated. He added that whether participants are part of an organization or attending individually, their presence conveys a message: "we remember, we celebrate, and we keep moving forward."
The Juneteenth Day Parade will commence at 10:45 a.m., with staging beginning at 10 a.m. Participants will gather at the Madison Labor Temple Parking Lot located at 1602 S. Park Street in Madison, Wisconsin. The parade route includes Park Street, Beld Street, Bram Street, and Fisher Street before concluding at Penn Park at 2101 Fisher Street.
This annual celebration is seen as an opportunity to recognize the history and resilience of Black communities while promoting freedom, progress, and unity.
