Madison College is offering high school juniors and seniors in the Madison Metropolitan School District an opportunity to participate in the Changemaker Leadership Program. The program will run from July 28 to August 16 at the Truax Campus, with applications due by July 7. Participants can earn college credit at no cost.
The three-week program aims to inspire students ready to engage in meaningful work. "This program is about listening to the hearts and minds of our community's brilliant young people and giving them the tools to say something and do something about the things that matter the most to them through leadership development, participatory research, storytelling, and creative expression," says Sheldon Hitchens, a strategist and lead program coach at Madison College.
Students will work on campaigns with community impact, such as raising awareness or advocating for policy change. These projects may include visual art, digital storytelling, or public installations.
Participants will register as Madison College students and enroll in a Social Media and Marketing course offered through the School of Business and Applied Arts. They will be evaluated on their work and receive a letter grade along with three college credits upon successful completion.
The Changemaker Leadership Program was developed by Madison College as part of its efforts to create future-facing pathways for emerging leaders through community action research. The initiative involves collaboration between various departments within the college.
