Carnelian Art Gallery, in collaboration with Lucille restaurant, is hosting an event featuring local artist Brady Nichols. The event will take place on Thursday, July 24, from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery located at 221 King St., Suite 102, Madison. It will include networking opportunities and a demonstration of relief printing.
The evening will offer refreshments from Lucille alongside the gallery's art collection. Although attendance is free, registration is required. Attendees can purchase food and beverages provided by Lucille.
At 6 p.m., Brady Nichols will give a talk about his book "Stretched Thin," which recounts the story of his brother and their tumultuous upbringing. “It was a very chaotic childhood where I was able to escape and go to college,” said Nichols. “He spent 18 years in prison.”
Nichols will also discuss six artworks displayed during the event and share insights into his career as a teacher and artist. His work primarily involves relief printing, producing intricate black-and-white images depicting birds, landscapes, and more.
“I have been creating linoleum relief prints the last few years,” Nichols explained. He noted that some pieces relate to his book while others explore themes like isolation through personal imagery and natural symbols.
“I enjoy weaving these things together in order to create a rich narrative,” he added.
